Les Patisseries

Initially planned to go to Rider's Cafe but I heard it's usually crowded and a booking had to be made so our second plan was to go to Lola's Cafe. However, when my friend looked it up, it happened to be fully booked until 6 Jan so that was out of the list as well :(
In the end, we settled on Les Patisseries which (if I'm not wrong) opened quite recently at Toa Payoh Central?
Wanted to try their Baked truffle mushroom pasta but due to the Christmas season, only their Christmas menu & brunch menu was available...
So I had the Eggs Benedict while my friend had the Croissant with ham & cheese!

Eggs Benedict ($11.90)
This was surprisingly good! Can't see the eggs in this picture cause they are covered by the bacon :( Not exactly sure what sauce they put over the bacon but it was really good as well (tasted a bit like cheese)
The croissant was fresh, flaky and flavourful and was something different from the usual Eggs Benedict which comes on a toast or bun.

Croissant with ham & cheese ($9.90)
The croissant used was the same as the one in the Eggs Benedict so that was of course wonderful.
The eggs met up to my friend's expectations as well and she enjoyed her meal!

Iced matcha latte ($6.50)
For some reason, the matcha latte didn't really stand out. Not enough matcha taste I guess?

Christmas Eve Dinner @ To-gather Cafe

Ever since I brought my family to To-gather Cafe the first time, they absolutely loved it and I think we've visited the cafe about 5 times in total? I think the decor of the cafe is really pretty, decorated with wonderful quotes all around and the staff there are extremely friendly and welcoming. So my mum decided to make a reservation at the place for our annual Christmas Eve dinner and I'm so glad she did because the food was absolutely great!! :)

Being the Christmas season, they had a special Christmas menu which served food that isn't available on the ordinary menu.

Each main course comes with a starter which we can choose from either 1) Creamy Blue Swimmer Crab Bisque or 2) Dill & Sugar Cured Salmon Carpaccio and a dessert which was Rum & Raisin Chocolate Brownie & Matcha Ice Cream

My parents had the Crab Bisque while I had the Salmon Carpaccio!

Creamy blue swimmer crab bisque w/ seafood ravioli

The bisque was great! Able to get the crab taste with every mouth & the ravioli was like a westernized version of a wanton which was soft and tasty.

Dill & sugar cured salmon carpaccio w/ lemon dressing, crispy capers & rocket leaves

Tasted like sashimi and being a sashimi lover this dish was of course, wonderful!

As for the main course, my dad had the beef, mum had the salmon and I had the duck and every single dish met up to our standards.

Grilled tenderloin of beef w/ shallot red wine reduction, lyonnaise potato & sautéed vegetables

The beef was really tender! When I tried it, I didn't experience any difficulty in chewing it unlike some other restaurants. My dad loved it, he wiped out the entire plate so quickly and he said that the potatoes and vegetables complemented the beef well.

Baked salmon fillet w/ saffron & blue mussel sauce, basil mash potato & sautéed vegetables

Loved the basil mash potato here compared to the normal mash potato that came with my duck :( The basil made the potato tastier and gave it a unique taste :)
The salmon was good as well! It was fresh and juicy not like some places which serve very dry salmon with little sauce accompanying it.

Confit of duck w/ fig chutney, thyme cranberry jus, mash potato & sautéed vegetables

Not really a duck lover but the first time I had duck confit was at Saveur @ Purvis Street and it left a good impression so I decided to try it again. Was quite afraid that I wouldn't enjoy the meal but I'm so glad that the dish didn't disappoint! The sauce complemented the duck well as it was sweet while the duck was salty :) Tasted a little like the meatball sauce served at IKEA which is really gooood.

Christmas Mango Breezer ($4)

Very refreshing with fresh mango bits inside!

Rum & raisin chocolate brownie with matcha ice cream

Was so excited when I found out that we were having this for dessert as I love rum & raisin and matcha! However, this was my first time trying a rum & raisin brownie so I wasn't sure how it would turn out. But I must say that this dessert was perfect. I really love how the brownie had NO NUTS in it at all as I absolutely hate nuts. Although the matcha taste in the ice cream wasn't as strong as I hoped it'd be, the brownie made up for it and it was still great overall. Sadly, they only have this on their Christmas menu :(

Ice Edge Cafe

Had steamboat dinner at one of my friend's house for Christmas Eve celebration and we chilled at her house for a while after that.

The soup was super flavourful & the ingredients were so fresh!!
Hehe thank you so much for the dinner :P

One hour more to Christmas & my friends decided to pop by Ice Edge Café because we were craving for some desserts. Luckily, the café opens until 12am and the last order is at 11.20pm so we managed to reach in time.

Browse through their menu and not only do they serve desserts, they also serve other main courses & side dishes as well. All their food looks/sounds super tempting too lol. But we only have space for desserts so desserts it was!

Waffles with salted caramel & choc mint ice cream

Their waffles was really fluffy & combine it with the ice cream ... It was super shiok!
Personally not a choc mint flavour fan so I did not like it. But my friends all liked it.
Their salted caramel ice cream was good too, you can taste the right amount of saltiness & sweetness.

Brownie with Earl Grey ice cream

Earl Grey ice cream was good. Definitely one of the better ones out there.
Brownie was served warm - a bite of warm brownie & cold ice cream, you can imagine the combination in your mouth right? Hahaha it was super gooooooooood.

Lemon Tart

Perfect end to the sweet desserts!
The sourness was just right to balance out the sweets we had earlier.

Will definitely return to this place when I'm near the area! Especially to try their main courses because their food looks sooo tempting heh.

Poulet @ Bugis+

I have been seeing the Poulet's Christmas ad poster almost everywhere and it has been tempting me ever since. Their Christmas special includes Poulet Roti with Caramelised Apple sauce, Blood Orange drink and Rustic French Pear & Apple Tart dessert.
Hence, I suggested going there for dinner today with my family.

Here's what we ordered:

Blood Orange

Ordered this and it was super refreshing!

Truffle Mash Potato

Cinnamon Apple Winglets

Too salty ...

Halibut En Papillote

My father had this and he found it average only.
It was quite small a portion too.

Poulet Roti with Mushroom Chardonnay sauce

Poulet de Cranberry

Poulet Roti with Caramelised Apple sauce

Chicken was soft & tender, as usual. :)
Sauce was sweet and goes well with chicken. However, I was quite sick of the sauce halfway through. But it's still worth the try!

d'Good Cafe & Sunday Folks

Tried Sunday Folks on Tuesday but I was so tempted to try the other ice cream flavours and since my other friend also wanted to try their waffles, I've decided to return again yesterday. And I think I am pretty much obsessed with their waffles & ice cream now? Oh dear.

Anyway, we had a light dinner at d'Good Café first before going over to Sunday Folks.
Here's what we ordered:

Eggs Benedict ($13.50)

My friend ordered this and he said it was not bad. He also mentioned that they gave a lot of ham so that's a bonus?

Scrambled eggs and toasts ($7.50)

Wasted my money on this.
The eggs were literally tasteless, did not even have the basic salt & pepper seasoning.

Even though I was really disappointed with what I have ordered, I will still be back to try the other dishes! Wanted to try the ham & cheese french toast at first, but I gave in to the scrambled eggs. Bad choice.

Before heading to Sunday Folks, my friend wanted to buy the churros at Churrosity! She bought the regular cup with caramel sauce. The regular cup had 6 small churros in them.

The churros were warm when we had them so it was really crispy!
Still preferred the chocolate sauce when we first tried.
I thought it was better when we first had them but my friend thought it tasted the same.
Different perspectives I guess?

And now it's time for my Sunday Folks!! GOD I love their waffles & ice cream.

Rich Chocolate Whiskey Ganache Cake

As the name goes, this was really a rich cake.
We were able to taste the whiskey & rich chocolate flavour in every bite, worth all the calories!

Waffles with Dark Chocolate & Earl Grey Lavender soft serve

Ultimate love for the Earl Grey Lavender flavour!
Personally love earl grey but there are some that are just wayyyyyy too strong but this was perfect! My friend didn't like it though.
The Dark Chocolate flavour sadly did not taste like dark chocolate, instead it tasted like milk chocolate. I was quite disappointed but it was still not bad.

Will I be back again? Definitely! Can't wait to try their Roasted Pistachio flavour. :P

Swee Choon Tim Sum Restaurant

After more than a year, finally returned back to Swee Choon for the second time!
Still as good as how I remembered it being the first time I went there :') and I think it's quite affordable as well. Went with 2 of my other friends and the total bill was $40.20 so each person only had to pay $13.40. We ordered exactly 10 dishes and were very satisfied after so I think it's really worth it!
Sadly, the liu sha bao isn't in any of pictures as we ordered it last and I forgot to take a picture of it.. :(

Carrot cake

Mee suah kueh

Red bean paste pancake

Fried prawn and mango dumpling
